Sponsorship for 1st Annual Putt-Putt Golf Outing
July 14, 2021Popcorn for THON Fundraiser
August 22, 2021Dear Chapter Members and Friends:
During the last year, our Board of Directors has been (virtually) working on new plans, relationships, and events that we hope will provide the best Penn State Alumni experience in the Pittsburgh area. We've been communicating with other Penn State & community organizations, strengthening our commitment to diversity, equity, & inclusion, and are making big plans for 2021-2022. We've said goodbye to several Board Members as their time of service ended, and we've also welcomed some fresh new faces that are taking our Chapter in new, exciting directions. We currently have some leadership opportunities available on our Board of Directors and our THON Alumni Committee that would be perfect for Penn Staters looking for ways to make an impact on our local community.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER - Are you creative, well organized, and familiar with social media platforms, trends, and communication strategies? This year, we're hoping to connect with new audiences on our social media channels. If you have a background in Marketing or Advertising/PR or experience with creating and managing a content calendar, we want to talk to you!
PHILANTHROPY & FUNDRAISING - Are you entrepreneurial with a positive attitude and enjoy forming meaningful relationships? We're looking for someone to cultivate donors, develop outreach strategies, and oversee aspects of events and other elements to support our Chappie Hill Endowed Scholarship, FastStart Program Endowment, and THON. If you work in Development, or just have a knack for fundraising, you'd be perfect!
COMMUNITY SERVICE - Are you a compassionate problem-solver who wants to better the world around you? We're looking for ways to extend our Penn State Pride into the Pittsburgh area and need someone to form relationships with community partners and coordinate service and outreach projects and events. If you have experience working with non-profits or just enjoy helping others in need, this would be a great option for you!
EVENT PLANNING - Are you outgoing, energetic, and enjoy meeting new people? Manage logistics including communicating with venues/vendors/fellow Alumni volunteers, facilitate raffles and other contests or giveaways, and create a welcoming environment for diverse populations for Chapter Happy Hours, game watch parties, and other social events. Someone who works in event planning or just has a gift for throwing great parties would be perfect!
YOUNG ALUMNI COMITTEE - Have you graduated in the last 10 years? Our newly formed Young Alumni Committee is accepting members! Connect with other Young Alumni and help us provide events and resources specifically to you and make your transition into Alumni Life in Pittsburgh seamless!
THON is a huge part of what it means to be Penn State Proud, and our THON Alumni Committee does a phenomenal job of supporting THON's mission in the Pittsburgh area. Their annual Blue White Ball gala has become Pittsburgh's premier THON fundraising event! If you were involved as a student and want to give back as an Alum, they have the following opportunities available:
DONOR RELATIONS - establish and maintain relationships with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners for the Blue White Ball and other, smaller events throughout the year.
SOCIAL MEDIA MANAGER - increase brand awareness through effective use of content creation across social media outlets.
Prefer to get involved without committing to a leadership role? Our Fundraising Committee (scholarships and endowments) and Young Alumni Committee (events & communication targeted to recent graduates) are great ways to share your specific talents with our community. Or, if you’re a local business professional, talk with us about speaking engagement opportunities or ways your business can benefit Penn Staters in Pittsburgh.
If you're interested in using your time, talent, and Penn State Pride to help lead the oldest Chapter in the Penn State Alumni Association network, email [email protected] with the subject line FUTURE VOLUNTEER LEADER, tell us about your interests and abilities, and we’ll share some more detailed information with you. WE ARE looking forward to hearing from you!
For The Glory,
Kristen Conti
